Physical Therapists (PTs) are
national board certified and state licensed health care professionals.
They diagnose and treat people of all ages who have medical or health-related
conditions that limit their ability to move and perform activities
of daily life. PTs provide the gross motor skill groundwork necessary
for these activities while sitting, standing, balance, walking,
and changing positions. PTs help patients become more mobile, and
more comfortable, becoming more efficient as they move. PTs also
help prevent conditions that limit a person's ability to move by
developing fitness and wellness programs that achieve healthy and
active lifestyles. |

A national board certified and state licensed
profession, Occupational Therapy assists people to develope skills
necessary for living independent and satisfying lives. OTs are
skilled professionals whose education includes studying human
growth and development with special emphasis on the social, emotional,
and physical responses to the effects of injury or illness. OTs
focus on establishing the fine motor skills required for performing
daily self care tasks, participating in leisure activities, and
completing household and work tasks without pain. OTs are prepared
to work with people of all ages who are dealing with life challenges.
At Orlanu Therapies, The Physical
and Occupational Therapists will often share patients, setting
personal goals with each patient. Our treatment plan is "wholistic,"
addressing the entire person's mind, body, and spirit, emphasizing
releasing the residual effects from past traumas and pain, and
re-establishing better alignment and strength for easier function.
Our therapists have advanced education
in various manual techniques and therapeutic exercise programs,
addressing the muscles, connective tissues, and joints to improve
mobility, strength, and ease pain. (Please see Treatment Techniques
Section, below, for specific explanations).
Our treatment plans also include stress
management strategies, and breathing techniques. Individualized
exercise programs are developed to further achieve the highest
level of independent function.
At Orlanu, we are continuously working
with you, finding the most effective strategies to reduce your
pain symptoms and to help you get your life back!

Acupuncture involves the insertion
of pre-sterilized, disposable, hair-thin needles into prescribed
points on the body in order to enhance the flow of vital energy
(called "qi") throughout the body. By regulating the functions
of the body, acupuncture works to increase resistance, enhance the
immune system, and reduce inflammation, spasms, and pain. Originally
mapped by the Chinese, the location of acupuncture points has been
recently confirmed by electromagnetic research. |

Touch has been used as a healing
method since the beginning of time. Massage gives us valuable information
about our bodies and emotional states. It tunes us into where we
are holding stress while increasing circulation, relieving pain,
soreness and fatigue. Massage helps one to sleep better and to be
connected to ourselves and to each other. At Orlanu we offer a wide
variety of massage methods: lymphatic, deep tissue, acupressure,
relaxation, neuromuscular therapy, and various types of energy massage
such as polarity and healing touch. |

Aromatherapy facilitates
healing through the use of essential oils. The chemical structure
of essential oils can penetrate cell membranes and transport oxygen
and nutrients into the cells. They nourish and replenish the muscle
tissue and joints via the blood stream which in turn goes deep into
all the organs and tissues. The oils can be used in a variety of
ways: direct application, diluted in bath or shower gels or in a
body lotion, used in dietary supplements, diffused into the air,
or added to cleaning solutions. |

Renew your vitality
while releasing stress through the breath. Deep connected breathing
opens one to greater creativity, inner wisdom, healing and self-empowerment. |

CranioSacral
Therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment approach that addresses the
health and function of all structures surrounding and within our
brain and spinal cord. It can be used as an evaluation and treatment
tool to identify and release restrictions that may impede critical
circulation necessary for brain and nerve function. Disruptions
within this system can be caused by past physical and/or emotional
injuries, traumas, orthopedic problems, or disease processes. At
Orlanu, this technique is a very powerful tool utilized to get to
the root of many of your pain symptoms. |

EFT
- Emotional Freedom Technique
Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture,
EFT is a simple tapping
procedure that gently realigns the body's energy system, without
the
discomfort of needles. Unlike many other energy healing methods,
EFT
incorporates an emotional element to the healing process, addressing
unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease,
psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits.
Negative emotional experiences disrupt the
energy meridians that run
through our body. The physical changes we feel from those disruptions,
like
nausea or anxiety, become attached to the memory of that experience
and affect the way we see the world.until we heal that disruption.
Properly applied, EFT quickly realigns the energy meridians with
respect to negative memories, disconnects the physical discomfort
that we attached to it, and quite often remove the resulting symptoms.
EFT can be effective with physical issues,
emotional issues, stress
related issues, and can also be used as a "success"
technique to align the energy system with any desired changes.
EFT can be used to clear "sabotage" of positive changes,
such as losing weight, by eliminating any "psychological
reversal" which keeps us from taking the steps we need to
get the results we desire. EFT is the "cutting edge"
of the new energy techniques, and the results that many people
get from it are truly outstanding.

Electromagnetic
fields of energy emanate from all of our bodys structures
as well as communicate amongst themselves. Measuring the strength
of these fields will tell us of the bodys inherent ability
to maintain its dynamic homeostasis (health). Any form of stress
can upset this delicate balance of self-regulation, and energy balancing
is a technique offered, to allow for this ability to return. Physical,
Occupational, and Massage Therapists provide this modality to babies,
children, and adults. |

Gua Sha is an Oriental
Medicine technique for muscle stiffness, pain, spasms, aches, and
related difficulties often occurring in areas of the upper back,
shoulders, and neck, as well as other areas of the body, such as
the low back, hips, upper arms, and thighs. Gua Sha is effective
in relieving recent as well as older, chronic difficulties because
this technique operates upon the Oriental Medicine principle that
recognizes pain to be the result of an underlying condition of lack
of free flow within the muscles. In the application of Gua Sha,
the stagnant material impeding circulation is removed by systematically
stroking the problematic area (a pleasant sensation for most people)
with a ceramic device. This technique brings the stagnant material
to the surface of the skin (an excretory organ), which easily eliminates
it. The delightful aspect of Gua Sha is that if there is no stagnant
material in the muscles, nothing will be visible when treatment
is performed. If, however, stagnant material exists in the muscles
and it comes to the surface, you will visibly see the results on
the skin at the time of treatment. |

Pathogenic microorganisms
have a tendency to hibernate along the spinal cord and in the lymphatic
system. The body has the ability to hold them in a suspended state
for long periods of time. Then the immune system becomes compromised
from stress, fatigue or other factors, they can be released and
manifest illness and disease. Lymphatic massage, drainage, and pumps
can be part of your individual health care program. |

Myofascial release
is a whole-body, hands-on approach for the evaluation and treatment
of the human structure. Its focus is the fascial system. Physical
trauma, an inflammatory or infectious process, or structural imbalance
from dental malocclusion, osseous restriction, leg length discrepancy,
and pelvic rotation all may create inappropriate fascial strain.
The biomechanical, bioelectrical and neuro-physiological effects
of myofascial release represent an evolutionary leap for our professions
and our patients. This is a total approach incorporating a physiologic
system that, when included with traditional therapy, medicine, or
dentistry, acts as a catalyst and yields impressive, clinically
reproducible results. |
Neurodevelopmental
Treatment
|
NDT-trained therapists
extensively study the development of normal and abnormal movement
patterns to discover the most efficient way to coordinate muscles
for independent, smooth and comfortable function for an individual.
This hands-on approach was originally developed for children and
adults with neurological challenges such as Cerebral Palsy and Cerebral
Vascular Accidents. At Orlanu, we use NDT principles with all of
our patients since, over time, pain can create compensations to
help us move, often perpetuating and worsening the pain. Getting
back to the basics or the building blocks of our movement patterns,
we use gentle hands-on techniques like touch, verbal, and visual
cues to shift you from painful ways of moving to more comfortable,
functional and easy movement. |

This is a powerful,
non-invasive tool for helping to correct defects in the curvature
of the spine. Raindrop technique originated from the research of
Dr. Gary Young and a Lakota medicine man in the 1970s. It
integrates Vita Flex and massage with essential oils to bring the
body into structural and electrical alignment. Raindrop technique
uses a sequence of highly antimicrobial essential oils designed
to simultaneously reduce inflammation and to kill the viral agents
responsible for it. |

Reiki is an ancient
Japanese hands-on healing art. The attunements you receive enhance
your awareness of the light within and help to focus its universal
healing energy. A sense of balance, relaxation, and wellness are
some of the immediate benefits of Reiki. It enhances standard therapies
and medical treatments, and brings harmony to your emotional, spiritual
and mental bodies. |

Our senses (touch,
sight, hearing, tasting, and movement) give us information about
the physical state of our body and our surrounding environment.
The brain must organize all sensations if a person is to learn,
move, and behave normally. When sensations flow in a well-organized
or integrated manner the brain can use these sensations to form
healthy responses such as perceptions, behaviors, and learning.
Sensory Integration Treatment is for children and adults who are
not experiencing sensations in an organized way. When difficulties
with sensory processing occur our stress levels will often rise,
creating unhealthy body responses such as muscle tightening. Our
body's way of responding to stress can easily become automatic and
habitual, causing even more pain. At Orlanu, our individualized
treatment plan provides environments that are rich in sensory experiences
to strengthen each person's awareness of our senses and how we respond
to them. |

Somato-Emotional
Release is a therapeutic process that utilizes CranioSacral Therapy
treatment principles to rid the body and mind of the residual affects
of trauma. Past physical and emotional traumas, and the memories
associated with those experiences, can get locked into the muscles
and soft tissues of the body at the time of the injury. With SER,
allowing these "past hurts" to arise and to release assists
the body in healing and restoring the previous levels of mobility
and comfort. At Orlanu, we support you with all levels of your healing.
We also welcome working in tandem with psychotherapists to enhance
their treatment with "our" patients. |
