an encounter with touch Part 1

Successful Treatment of Chronic Pain with Myofascial Release

DESCRIPTION

(For complete information please click here: full syllabus)

Treating patients with chronic pain is one of the most challenging problems we therapists face. Unfortunately, most manual treatment approaches for these patients are limited and focus on the musculoskeletal aspect of the chronic pain while ignoring the fascial component. Such a one-sided approach provides only temporary relief, and as a result, patients cycle through our clinics, frustrating both themselves and the therapist. Can we do better?  Chronic pain has many facets, requiring a multidimensional approach. For successful therapy, we must provide: 1) manual therapy that addresses the myofascial restrictions, 2)  manual therapy that addresses the somato-emotional component of chronic pain (part 2 course), and 3) movement facilitation to re-educate the body into movingpain-free (part 1 and part 2 courses).

Part 1 class is designed for therapists who are new to the John F..Barnes Myofascial Release Approach (MFR). Primary emphasis will be on learning soft tissue mobilization and deep tissue release, followed by therapeutic exercises that will integrate the new mobility. Discussion and applicability will be specific to patients with chronic pain.  Hands-on lab sessions will be utilized so that all participants will experience the direct results of their treatment. This workshop can provide you with new, powerful techniques for helping your patients with chronic pain.

AN ENCOUNTER WITH TOUCH Part 2

Successful treatment of Chronic Pain, including patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

DESCRIPTION:  Expanding upon the skills you learned in An Encounter with Touch (Part 1): Successful Treatment of Chronic Pain with Myofascial Release, you will refine your ability to treat patients with chronic pain challenges, many of whom demonstrate components of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or who have the diagnosis.  We will be learning more advanced Myofascial Release (MFR) techniques, introducing Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and exploring movement facilitation unique to each patient. One of our foci will be treating the somato-emotional component of chronic pain and exploring its commonalities shared with PTSD.  As you improve your skill set and develop increasing confidence in your ability to work with patients with chronic pain, your patients will be transformed….as will you.
