Orlanu's Treatment Techniques

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy facilitates healing through the use of essential oils. The chemical structure of essential oils can penetrate cell membranes and transport oxygen and nutrients into the cells. These oils nourish and replenish the muscle tissue and joints via the blood stream which in turn goes deep into all the organs and tissues. The oils can be used in a variety of ways: direct application, diluted in bath or shower gels or in a body lotion, used in dietary supplements, diffused into the air, or added to cleaning solutions.

Breathwork

Uncover ease in the body as you release stress through the breath. Stress may be physical, emotional or mental in nature. Sustained and connected breathing is an invaluable tool that can assist the body to release blocked tension and dis-ease that the body has learned to hold and cope with from past trauma.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on treatment approach that addresses the health and function of all structures surrounding and comprising our central nervous system (our brain and spinal cord). It can be used as both an evaluation and treatment tool to identify and release fascial restrictions that may impede critical circulation and function necessary for the nervous system. Disruptions within this system can be caused by past physical and/or emotional injuries, traumas, orthopedic problems, or disease processes. At Orlanu, this technique is a very powerful tool utilized to get to the root of many of your pain symptoms.

Energy Balancing

Electromagnetic fields of energy emanate from all of our body's structures as well as communicate amongst themselves. Measuring the strength of these fields will tell us of the body's inherent ability to maintain its dynamic homeostasis (health). Any form of stress can upset this delicate balance of self-regulation, and energy balancing is a technique offered, to allow for the body to uncover its inherent equilibrium. Physical, Occupational, and Massage Therapy at Orlanu incorporates this treatment technique to all of our patients.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (the Barnes method) is a whole-body, hands-on approach for the evaluation and treatment of the human structure. Its focus is the muscular and fascial (connective tissue) system. Physical trauma, an inflammatory or infectious process, a structural imbalance (from dental malocclusion, boney restriction, leg length discrepancy, and pelvic rotation) may create muscular and fascial strain. The biomechanical, bioelectrical and neuro-physiological effects of myofascial release represent an evolutionary leap for our professions and our patients. This is a total approach incorporating a physiologic system that, when included with conventional therapy, medicine, or dentistry, acts as a catalyst and yields impressive, clinically reproducible results.

Neurodevelopmental Treatment

NDT-trained therapists extensively study the development of normal and abnormal movement patterns discovering the most efficient way to coordinate muscles for independent, smooth and comfortable function for an individual. This hands-on approach was originally developed for children and adults with neurological challenges such as Cerebral Palsy and Cerebral Vascular Accidents. At Orlanu, we use NDT principles with all of our patients since, over time, pain can create compensations to help us move, often perpetuating and worsening the pain. Returning to the basics or the building blocks of our movement patterns, we use gentle hands-on techniques: touch, verbal, and visual cues to shift you from moving painfully to more comfortable, functional and easy ways of moving.

Raindrop Technique

Raindrop Therapy is a powerful, non-invasive tool for helping to correct defects in the curvature of the spine. Raindrop technique originated from the research of Dr. Gary Young and a Lakota medicine man in the 1970's. It integrates Vita Flex and massage with essential oils to bring the body into structural and electrical alignment. Raindrop technique uses a sequence of highly antimicrobial essential oils designed to simultaneously reduce inflammation responsible for it.

Sensory Integration

Our senses (touch, sight, hearing, tasting, and movement) give our brain the information about our physical state of our body and of our surrounding environment. The brain then organizes all of this information and directs certain systems to respond for us in order to interact easily in our world. When sensations flow in a well-organized or integrated manner and when the brain knows how to respond effectively, we experience healthy responses such as perceptions, behaviors, and learning. Sensory Integration Treatment is for children and adults who are not experiencing sensations in an organized way. When difficulties with sensory processing occur our stress levels will often rise, creating unhealthy body responses such as muscle tightening. Our body's way of responding to stress can easily become automatic and habitual, causing discomfort and sometimes pain. At Orlanu Therapies, our individualized treatment plan provides environments that are rich in sensory experiences to strengthen each person's awareness of our senses and how we respond to them.

Somato-Emotional Release

Somato-Emotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic process that utilizes Myofascial Release and Craniosacral Therapy treatment principles to rid the body and mind of the residual affects of trauma. Past physical and emotional traumas, and the memories associated with those experiences, can become locked within the muscles and soft tissues of the body at the time of the injury. SER, allows these "past hurts" to arise, move, and release—restoring body's mobility, comfort and ease of movement. At Orlanu, we support all levels of healing. We also welcome working in tandem with psychotherapists to enhance their treatment with "our" patients.
